After narrowly beating Midwest City Saturday in a 63-61 game, the Lady Irish basketball team is set to play Booker T. Washington in the State Quarterfinals on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

With a possible title on the horizon, the team is focused on executing the little things, being aggressive and having fun.

“We’re just taking it one game, one quarter, one possession at a time,” junior Molly Milligan said. “When we’re in big moments, it’s important to break it down into smaller goals that add up to the ultimate goal of winning the game.”

As for senior Elliott Jones, she wants to soak in every last moment with her teammates. Jones believes the most important thing is to play together as a team. 

“I’m looking to be really present in my last week of practice and then go out on the court and play together,” Jones said. “I think we’re as good as anyone when we play together, so that’s the most important mindset not only for me to keep but our entire team.”

The game plan for the team is something that they have focused on all year: win the jump balls. 

“As always, we have to rebound as a team and win the majority of the 50/50 balls,” Head Coach Jade Carter said. 

The girls believe that it is important to have a high level of energy. 

“We just need to focus on playing as hard as we can and keeping our energy up,” sophomore Caroline Collins said. “If we keep our energy up and make our shots, we should win.” 

The team knows that this tournament is going to be tough, but the girls are determined to keep a level mentality.“Never get too high and never get too low,” Carter said. “Be mentally tougher than the other team and use your God gifted talents.
