In a quick three inning game against Northwest Classen, freshman Andrew Waldo hit a walk-off double, scoring one run for the Fighting Irish.
“I just got out there, and I just did the trick,” Waldo said.
For the rest of the season Waldo hopes that the team keeps competing like it did, when they run ruled both the junior varsity and varsity teams.
“I hope we do what we did last night every game,” Waldo said. “That would be awesome. I also hope the team chemistry stays how it is. I think we have good chemistry right now.”
During Waldo’s double, juniors Luke Parcell and William Shughart said the atmosphere was incredible.
“Kid’s a GOAT,” Parcell said. “He’s got heart, so it was fun.”
During the second inning, they put in some of the underclassmen like Waldo. Shughart said the team gathered before Waldo went up to bat and was super excited when he hit the double.
“It was a good moment,” Shughart said.
Senior Rex Dahlgren said team atmosphere plays a big role in baseball. Dahlgren also said that it is also important to support the underclassmen.
“You just have to look back to when you were in their shoes and just think what you wish seniors did for you, and I just try to be a role model for them every single day,” Dahlgren said.
The team will face the Guthrie Bluejays this evening. The JV game plays at 5 p.m., and Varsity plays at 6:30 p.m. For more upcoming games, see the schedule.
