Last Wednesday, the anatomy classes hosted Dr. Anu Bajaj who gave a lecture on her job as a plastic surgeon.
Anatomy teacher Trevor Swink invited Bajaj, his wife, to speak because he said it is beneficial for anatomy students to get first-hand accounts of a doctor’s work in the medical field.
“She started with Reconstruction in her early years,” Swink said. “She used to work for a university, and she did head and neck reconstructions after cancer and breast reconstructions after cancer. When she came to Oklahoma City, she primarily focused on breast reconstruction after cancer for the first half of her career being back in Oklahoma City. Now, she’s primarily doing esthetics, so she’s doing elective surgeries now.”
Senior anatomy student Savannah O’Neal likes that there are guest speakers in class.
“I think it’s great to get a visual on what we’re learning, and to hear from other individuals that have experience in the field,” O’Neal said. “It was really fun to see a new perspective on anatomy, and get to see all the slides.”
O’Neal said she learned a lot from Bajaj and wishes there were more guest speakers for her other classes.
“It’s just really nice to get out of the classroom and see a different perspective on what your learning,” O’Neal said.
