Though impacted by winter weather, the school celebrated Catholic Schools Week Jan. 28-30, honoring the community, students and teachers at Catholic schools nationwide.
Campus Minister Kelly Golbuff’s Spiritual Leadership class was in charge of Catholic Schools Week festivities.
Due to the snowy weather, the school was virtual Monday and Tuesday shifting the plan for festivities. Monday, students had planned to release a video that celebrates the Catholic community at school. Tuesday’s plan also involved a video that focused on family. The disruption in the early week’s schedule meant the festivities did not begin until later.
“We didn’t really get to pull everything together until Thursday,” Golbuff said. “It was a very abbreviated thing, but we still were able to have some fun.”
Thursday celebrated faculty and staff. In a crunch, the third hour Spiritual Leadership class worked hard to deliver Sonic orders and cards to the teachers within an hour, a challenge that resulted in a bit of unexpected chaos.
“Normally, [Sonic] will write the names of everyone on the drinks,” Golbuff said. “This year, they just put numbers on them. My class of 15 people had to come back over, come up with a system to match up the numbers with the names with the cards, and then get them all delivered before the end of the third hour.”
While the week was full of unexpected surprises and challenges, Golbuff said it is still important to remember what the school is celebrating.
“I think sometimes it’s really easy to just take them for granted,” Golbuff said. “So take just a moment a week to look at what Catholic schools are, what they are historically, and how they impact not only the people who are in the schools, but also the communities around them.”
Golbuff remains hopeful that next year will be easier, more informative and more enjoyable for students and faculty.
“Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed my days relaxing and comfy clothes, but hopefully next year we can have that whole week to celebrate with everybody.” Golbuff said.
