With the season in full swing, the baseball team is approaching regionals after a series of successful district games.
“We’re winning a lot of district games,”senior Harrison Glover said. “Those are the games that are the most important, because that decides who will host the regional, so as it stands right now, we are just four wins away.”
This means the team must continue winning and putting in the hard work to be able to host the tournament.
Sophomore Waite Swanson explained that the team has games most weekdays they have games and the team practices until the games start.
“So the main preparation is the day of games,” Swanson said. “We will get into the indoor facility about 30 minutes before we have to be on the field so we can get extra hits in and then we work on fielding and all that stuff just before the game.”
The team works well together because they place pride in their camaraderie. Sophomore Carson Byrnes mentioned one of the team’s fun traditions.
“When someone hits a home run, we have a green cowboy hat with gold clovers on it,” Byrnes said.
When given the hat the player wears it in the dugout for the rest of the game.
In addition, Glover said that the team enjoys getting ready in the locker room before they have to focus on the field.
“We do have a lot of guys in our locker room that like to play a bunch of music,” Glover said. “We bring a lot of big speakers, and that’s kind of what we do before every game, to try to just get loose and have fun.”
