In the wake of all this chaos, students are making the best of a bad situation and helping local healthcare workers.

Juniors Elyse Cronic, Jacob Holman and Joe Kelly have hand made hundreds of masks to donate to nurses and doctors who are lacking PPE.

“Joe Kelley, Jacob Holman and I have made over eight-hundred masks so far,” Cronic said. “We have donated to places like Integris Hospice House, Integris Heart Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Positive Tomorrow, Community Hospital, and Lawyers for Children. We started making masks and then became involved with an organization called Masks For Oklahomans and have been working with them as well.”

Cronic explained that making masks has become a personal mission of hers, not just a way to get service hours.

Making masks holds a special place in my heart because my aunt is on the Covid-19 floor at St.Anthony’s,” Cronic said.

“I plan to study to be a doctor, so if I was in need for PPE I would hope someone would do the same for me.

Cronic stated that this work could help everyone feel a little better during these uncertain times.

“It’s also reduced anxiety and has given me hope to virtually work with two of my classmates doing the same,” Cronic said.
