Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted, and every 9 minutes, that victim is a child, according to RAINN.org. It is important to be educated on sexual violence and take action to help prevent it.
One in 9 girls and one in 20 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault. The teens and children who experience sexual violence are multiple times more likely to develop symptoms of drug abuse, experience PTSD (Post Dramatic Stress Disorder) as adults, and/or experience a major depressive episode as an adult. It is important to learn social and emotional learning, safe dating and relationship skills, and empowerment-based training.
