Junior Quenby Swanson dreams of attending a D1 school where she hopes to continue rowing.
Swanson has accomplished many achievements through rowing and dedicates her time outside of school to the sport.
Oklahoma City rowers have the chance to travel to many different cities across the country where they compete in regattas.
“We traveled to San Diego which was really nice, but my favorite place we’ve traveled to has to be Boston,” Swanson said. “It’s the biggest event of the year with 200,000 spectators. It’s in the middle of October when Boston is the prettiest.”
Along with Swanson, sophomore Grayson Ward has spent years rowing and was able to compete at the world’s largest three-day regatta.
“I got into rowing after lockdown because I was looking to find a sport since there wasn’t much to do,” Ward said. “I pretty much instantly fell in love with it. Since then, I have dedicated all my time and effort into the sport.”
Oklahoma City has a great facility downtown for not only rowing, but also paddle boarding, surf boarding, and kayaking.
“The boathouse district, where I practice, is a growing company,” Swanson said. “It’s next to the river and includes many different teams.”
As well as Swanson, Ward hopes to continue rowing in college.
“All my hard work, effort and dedication has really paid off,” Ward said.
