Freshman TJ Shanahan competes at the March 22 Casady Tennis Duel. Shanahan remains undefeated this season.

With only a couple more events for both boys and girls tennis, freshman TJ Shanahan and senior Olivia LaForge are looking towards state.

“I think [Shanahan’s] got a real shot at taking state potentially. If not this year, in the following years,” Coach David Gilpin said. “I think this year, [LaForge] has a chance to place in the top five.”

Shanahan is the boys No.1 singles player and remains undefeated this season. LaForge competed for the state title before, and placed eighth, but has more experience now.

“I think we’ve got a chance as a boys and girls team to be top five in the state for sure,” Gilpin said.

The team has competed in a number of different tournaments against schools around the state. Their most recent tournament was the Crossings Tournament, where the boys placed fourth and the girls placed sixth.

“We’re just ready to compete this year,” Gilpin said.

Both teams compete today at the BMCHS Invitational at the OKC tennis center.
