As Covid-19 sweeps the nation, it is affecting many people’s lives. From school teachers to flight attendants, the virus has continued to shut down places of work, and significantly restrict those still open.

For Justina Fitzgerald, CFO and secretary at Wiley Post Elementary School, life has been flipped around due to public schools closing down. She has been content with staying home and quarantining with her family.

“Well, I’m no longer going to school everyday,” Fitzgerald said. “Yes, I would say it’s been a drastic change not getting up and going to work everyday, but I will be working from home starting April 6.”

This is a trying time for her, but she feels fortunate to be able to work at home, and she attributes many of these blessings to God, and continues to pray to him everyday.

“It’s very uncertain how things will go so it is a little scary, but just send our prayers up and do everything we can to stay safe and keep our family and the ones we love safe,” Fitzgerald said. “Take care of what needs to be taken care of.”

Her close family friend Jeffrey Ewing is a flight attendant for American Airlines. Ewing has experienced difficulties with his job with so many flights being cancelled.

“They are supposed to cancel more and more flights, like they said 60% in April and 80% in May,” Ewing said.

In order to combat the shortage of flights, the airlines are offering many of their workers a way out.

“They are offering people early leaves,” Ewing said. “They are offering early outs. They want people to quit.”

The entirety of the airline’s schools have been shut down as well.

“American airlines stopped all hiring,” Ewing said. “They scheduled 11 classes this year, and not all were complete. Classes 1-3 graduated, and the rest were sent home and cut.”
