The most difficult year of high school is known to be junior year. For juniors, juggling school work, college testing and determining plans for the future can pile up fast.
Taking AP and honors classes strengthens your resume and prepare you to go to college, but the work load can be extensive. Some juniors take all advanced classes, which adds to the overall stress of being in high school.
Junior Paige Ihrig is one of many taking all AP classes, besides Church History, which does not have an advanced/AP version to take. Although overwhelming, Paige uses different organization tactics to stay on top of her school work.
“I’ve found that making a weekly planner is very helpful to keep up with my assignments and study time,” Ihrig said.
Procrastination can cause homework to take many hours to complete. Class time and study hall is not enough time to complete assignments for those that go above and beyond with all AP and honors classes, so working at home is almost a daily guarantee.
“I keep a planner and it really helps because I get a lot of assignments and some advanced teachers don’t use Google Classroom,” junior Wesley Lemons said. “I like to do work every day, so spreading out my work helps a lot instead of cramming it all.”
A full week of tests, quizzes, and home work leaves some juniors in high school unmotivated and exhausted by the weekend. Even with an abundance of work, it is still important for students to take time for themselves. For junior Kate Heinlen, she finds an escape in practicing her guitar or playing with her pets.
“To stay motivated, I take time out of my day to do something I love,” Heinlen said.
