Before Monday night’s softball game, the team honored senior Molly Taylor’s mother, Jennifer Taylor, who beat her colon cancer diagnosis. Every player on the field and every parent in the stands wore blue shirts, the color memorializing colon cancer. The Taylor family spoke on the emotional impact of the team’s unity on their family.
“When the team wanted to wear blue for the cancer, and all the parents got involved, and a lot of other spectators, and everybody wore blue; it was nice to see that everybody you know loved her and the family so much,” said Rick Jones, Jennifer Taylor’s father.
Jennifer Taylor’s husband spoke about the relief of the final chemotherapy treatment.
“Well, at the beginning of the year, she was diagnosed with colon cancer,” said Bob Taylor, Jennifer Taylor’s husband. “[We] went through treatment things, and [she] finished her last treatment last week.”
Molly Taylor reflected on the reality of her mom becoming ‘cancer-free.’
“I was really emotional out there, just because it’s like, you know, my mom is cancer-free,” Molly Taylor said. “It’s crazy to me that in January we were going through surgery and stuff for her, and so it means a lot to me that she’s finally done, and that my team can honor her.”
