The Club Walk-About brought a new sense of community and leadership through warm smiles and welcomes. Fresh faces walked around the event, hoping to take part in their community.
Club representatives encouraged peers to take part in their clubs through a variety of bright boards, fun music and persuasive conversations.
“Our club has the student focus on the culture of Latin American countries rather than the literal language,” Spanish Club President Carl Amaya said. “So, as president, I want the students to learn more about the cultural things, but also kind of take them into a new perception of what it’s like.”
From cultural appreciation to shared interests, Club Walk-About featured all kinds of clubs, ranging from sports, languages, and community engagement. Representatives displayed opportunities of self-improvement in their discussions of joining communities.
“You don’t even have to like fishing to join the club,” Fishing Club President Luke Strickland said. “I mean there’s plenty of people in this club that go to the meetings and don’t know how to fish, and they still end up catching a fish.”
While representatives were busy with pushing newcomers to join their clubs, other students were thrilled with new opportunities to become involved in new communities.
“Oh, I’m super excited to find a club that fits me,” freshman Eralen Nones said.
Nones encouraged her fellow students to find a clubs that fit their personalities.
Overall, the Club Walk-About was successful with about 30 freshmen walking around and joining new clubs.
