The boys basketball team advanced to the state tournament Saturday defeating Idabel in a gritty contest that was decided in the last minutes.
“It was awesome,” senior Bryce Schwartz said. “It was probably one of the best high school basketball feelings I’ve ever had.”
This victory means a lot to all the players and coaches. Head boys basketball coach Jake Brown was particularly enthusiastic that the win capped a season of hard work by all the players on his team.
“The guys worked really hard all season,” Brown said. “We set really high goals for ourselves and they accomplished them.”
To prepare for the next game the team must be ready to face schools it hasn’t previously played.
“We have kids from different high schools coming in and we’re going to try to simulate Douglass as much as possible and get ready for the most physical basketball game we’ve played all year,” Brown said.
The season is not over as the team can advance further in State. Coach Brown believes the team can continue to win.
“We still have more to go and we’re excited,” Brown said.
