English teacher Rebecca Savuto has always loved teaching. Savuto was raised in California by her adoptive parents with her dad working as a police officer, and her mom who stayed at home until she started school.
Savuto said her love of teaching stems from her mom who went to garage sales and found old textbooks to give to her. As a child she would type up tests from those books and print them out.
“I had a whiteboard that I sat in my living room and sat my Barbies in front and taught my Barbies,” Savuto said. “It was like I was always destined to be a teacher.”
While perusing her love of teaching, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Child development from California State University in Sacramento. She later earned a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Brandman University and began teaching ninth through 12th grade language arts in Jan. 2007 in Northern California while working as an English language development coordinator. This is her tenth year at Bishop McGuinness.
“Ms. Savuto teaches many points in English and helps us understand material,” freshman Logan Kuespert said. “Her class is challenging, but fun, and I enjoy the class.”
Savuto loves to live a health centered lifestyle with pilates, walking and exploring nature. She became a yoga instructor. She also enjoys doing pottery.
“I wanted to seek out a creative activity out side of work,” Savuto said. “I took a ceramics class about a year and a half ago, and I fell in love with it. It’s the best thing for both my creativity and my mental health.”
Her creations range from candles, vases, mugs and full dinnerware sets to art pieces like abstract sculptures.
Savuto shows passion, dedication and love to everything she has decided to do. From teaching to arts and crafts she works hard in everything she does. She will surely leave a lasting impression on her students and staff helping everyone grow.
