This past Monday, the swim team competed at the 5A State Championship, with the girls team securing seventh place overall and the boys team finishing in fifth place.
The team celebrated two state champion titles: junior John Nguyen won first in the 200-yard freestyle, while freshman Camryn Kanaly took first place in the 200 individual medley.
“I think my faith has helped me to succeed because this year my speed was set back due to our pool closing, and we didn’t practice for three weeks,” Nguyen said. “I wasn’t sure how I was going to do at state, but I always remembered that at the end of the day, everything will fall into God’s plan.”
Nguyen also reflected on his back-to-back title win.
“My favorite memory this season is maintaining my title as State Champion in the 200 freestyle,” Nguyen said.
Both the girls and boys teams placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, showing team efforts.
Junior Addy Harley, who placed ninth overall in the 100-yard breaststroke and competed in the girls 200-yard freestyle relay, highlighted a special moment for her team.
“One of my favorite team moments this season was competing in the final heat of the 200 freestyle relay at state and beating our time by three seconds,” Harley said.
She also celebrated her individual achievement.
“My favorite memory from this season is when I cut three seconds off my 100 breaststroke time in the finals at state,” Harley said. “Which is the most I had dropped all season in just one race.”
Other standout performances included Brady Mitchell’s third place finish in the boys 500-yard freestyle and the boys 400-yard freestyle relay team securing third place.
