The relay team broke its record. The swim team has broken three records this year and has had a successful season overall with everyone breaking their personal records. They are first in 5A and have placed in numerous meets throughout the season.
“We’ve set a lot of personal records this year, and we’ve seen improvement,” swim coach Mark Veneklasen said.
As part of their strategic approach, the swim coaches have decided to modify the training schedule in the weeks before regionals. This will involve a shift towards more mental work exercises, aiming to increase the team’s focus and performance.
“Our training tends to go from endurance work to more sprint exercises,” Veneklasen said.
At the state level last year, the team brought 14 boys who competed in 5A, with only one girl competing in 6A. However, this year, they aim for a more significant number of qualified swimmers.
“I’m excited and nervous for regionals coming up,” freshman Camryn Kanaly said. “I’ve been eating right, resting and just practicing to prepare.”
The team is preparing for regionals, which is Feb. 8 and state Feb. 21-22.
“I think I’ve done really good,” sophomore Kaylie Fedor said. “I’ve gotten several PRs and events that I like. I’ve swam events that I normally don’t swim, and I’ve done really good in them. And so I think I’m ready for regionals, and then like to take those events to state.”
