This weekend, the speech and debate team will participate in the Lawton MacArthur Tournament, the last tournament of the semester. This event marks the end of a semester’s worth of hard work by students from fundamentals of speech to competitive speech and debate.
Speech and Debate teacher and coach Brett Young expressed optimism about the upcoming competition.
“We’ve been practicing, practicing, practicing,” Young said. “Our goal is to qualify more students for regionals and see as many team members as possible to earn medals or trophies.”
The tournament will feature participants of all skill levels, from first time competitors to experienced debaters. Young emphasized that beyond competitive success, the main aim is to provide students with a positive learning experience.
“Even if they’re new and it’s their first tournament, I hope that they have fun, enjoy it and gain confidence,” Young said
