In a display of dedication and vocal talent, senior Harrison Freid has advanced through two prestigious choir competitions this fall. Freid was accepted to the Central Oklahoma Choral Directors Association (COCDA) Honor Choir and has advanced to the second round of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OMEA) state auditions.
“It’s fun,” Fried said. “ It is an interesting challenge, but I find it fun even though it is hard.”
The COCDA Honor Choir auditions, held Sept. 28, saw participants from all across the Oklahoma City metro area. To audition, students were required to learn four songs, which were cut the Friday before the competition and performed in front of judges. Students sang in a room behind a sheet as to stay anonymous, and were numbered based on their performance.
“My goal was to have as many students as possible to audition,” Choir director Jennifer Sokolosky said. “Every year, I hope for one or two students to make these honors choirs, as it’s very difficult to qualify.”
The second round of auditions is scheduled for Nov. 16
