Last weekend the speech team competed in a tournament where they won first overall as a team and had 22 students qualify for regionals. The team had a clean sweep in standard oratory, prose and domestic extemporaneous speaking.
“We ranked first overall as a team,” Coach Brett Young said. “I was very proud of our team.”
Many students who competed are in Fundamentals of Speech and could only choose from two events, while the competitive speech could pick any event. Young makes sure students are well prepared and have all that they need to compete. The students practiced everyday with Young or Coach Lori Crews critiquing them.
“It was a lot of fun,” freshman Emory Eckels said. “The whole thing was an amazing experience, and I can’t wait to continue competing.”
