Last Spring, the school had a record number of winners in the essay contest put on by the Women’s Catholic Council..
The three freshmen winners are Ryan Kanaan, Amelia Currie, and Sydney Black., who won first, second, and third place in the middle school contest which was about how we can plant our seeds of faith, and how this can help their spiritual life.
“Everyone has a garden, and their faith is represented by that garden, and their virtues are different flowers,” Kanaan said.
The awards were cash prizes, presented by Linda Tucker to the students, on September 4th, 2024.
Campus minister Kelly Allen said it was nice to see how all these different students demonstrated their faith in their essays.
“I think it is a great representation of McGuinness, and because all of these students are now winners, I hope it will inspire people in the future,” Allen said.
Charlotte Waldo, a 2024 graduate, who now attends Tulane University won second place in the High School Category.
Allen said she hopes people will continue to enter the contest. She said it impacts the school in a positive way, and that it was a testament to these students because it was always an extra essay, they were not required to do.
