Calf Fry, the annual three-day country music festival in Stillwater, was loud, crowded and muddy, but it was a great time.
I went on Friday night to see Flatland Cavalry, and I thought it was a lot of fun. I got to the grounds around 8:30 and the ticket lines went fast, but I would suggest parking further away and then walking because the traffic can be heavy.
When you first walk in, there’s lots of vendors with merchandise and food, but lines will most likely be long, so if you’re planning to eat or get any merch I would get there early depending on what artist you want to see. Once you get past the stands, you’ll see the stage and the general admissions area, in front of the General admission area is the VIP area.
I was able to get pretty close to the first gate and had a good view of the stage, but it can get very claustrophobic and pushy. Further back from the main stage, it is less crowded with pretty good views of the stage.
Overall, Calf Fry is a great experience, and if you like country music, I would definitely suggest you go; however, even if country music isn’t your thing, there are so many other things to do: goat roping, tattoo booths and dancing at the Tumbleweed. The atmosphere is definitely contagious, and it is hard to not enjoy your time at Calf Fry.
