The theaters department is beginning preparations for the spring play “Clue,’ which debuts Feb.15.
“Clue” follows six blackmail victims who are invited to an isolated mansion by a man who knows a dark secret from each of their pasts. On arrival, each is given a pseudonym drawn from a hat before being introduced to the blackmailer. Each is handed a weapon, at which point the lights are switched off and the blackmailer is killed. The play follows the guests trying to uncover the murderer.
Director Brett Young said a lot of thought goes into what play he chooses each year.
“There is a lot of process of elimination, where I have to decide what would be suited best for the cast that we have this year, and what I think that audiences would most like to see,” Young said.
The cast has had to put a lot more thought into the dialogue for “Clue.”
“This play is different from other productions because the dialogue is more intricate than normal plays,” said sophomore Eve Moen, who plays Miss Scarlett.
The cast has rehearsal everyday after school during the week, and during rehearsals they have had to work a lot on the timing of their lines.
“This makes the actors/actresses really have to focus on when they say their lines or else the scene would have awkward pauses that would be uncomfortable for both audience and performers,” Moen said.
The cast is excited to see how the audience will react to the show since it is so different from those they have done in recent years.
“Since “Clue” is such a famous show, I am excited to see and hear the audience’s reaction to things that are similar to the movie or completely different, [to see the] things they think are funny, and [to hear] if they overall enjoy the show,” Moen said.
