After 22 years of teaching in public school and community colleges, Spanish teacher Suzanne Tate has finally gotten the opportunity to join a school centered around her faith.
Tate is a new teacher in the Spanish department who teaches three sections of Spanish I and three sections of Spanish III.
Tate is originally from Oklahoma City, and has lived in Oklahoma all her life. She attended college at the University of Oklahoma, and attended University of Central Oklahoma to receive her masters.
“While working to receive my masters I still worked at a community college and taught Spanish,”Spanish Teacher Suzanne Tate said. “The community college was also where my husband worked as an English professor.”
Tate said she was introduced to Spanish culture early on in her life and fell in love with it. She also fell in love with teaching early on, leading to her career as a Spanish teacher. She has taught in both public schools and at the community college level.
“I lived in Colima, Mexico for three years,” Tate said. “I studied abroad with the University of Oklahoma for two semesters, and I loved it so much. Later on, I went back and worked there, teaching ESL, and I just loved it.”
Tate has three main passions in her life: teaching, family and faith.
“Teaching is my passion, as well as being a part of a great parish community,” Tate said. “It’s called St. Damien of Molokai; it’s a traditional Latin Mass. Another thing I just love is my family, which consists of my five children and husband.”
Tate is happy to be a part of the school community.
“I absolutely love it here,” Tate said. “I’m very pleased with my students and how hard they work. I’m very impressed with the entire school, and I wanted to come here so badly. I’m grateful to be here.”
