After a long day of studying and schoolwork, Senior Homecoming Queen Fina Chongwa strives to find a balance between school, extracurricular leadership roles, and, above all, she tries to make time for her family.
Chongwa was crowned queen at the Sept. 21 football game. While her long list of academic achievements and leadership in the community, including senior class president, are some of the things that she’s most known for, to her there are much more important things in life.
“I’m very family oriented,” Chongwa said. “If I’m not doing something for school, I’m probably hanging out with my brother. He just turned nine, so it’s always like me going to a soccer game or taking him to practice and things like that.”
Chongwa serves as a school presidential ambassador, senior class president, and Speech and Debate historian. Through all of these positions, she has learned how to manage her time so she can make time for the things that are most important to her.
“I think it’s really hard to find a balance and it took me a really long time to do that,” Chongwa said. “I think not being afraid to ask other people for help, like making sure that I don’t think that I have to do everything myself. There is a community, and there’s a really great network here at McGuinness of people who will help you like teachers and students, so I think asking for help really helps me balance.”
For Chongwa, Leadership comes naturally.“When I do fill in my responsibilities in leadership roles, they shape me into a more responsible person,” Chongwa said.
