The football team is going back to the basics this year to ensure a successful season.
Including a focus on team leadership, and finishing games strong they will have to work hard to achieve these goals.
The team has some new characteristics this season compared to past seasons.
“I think we will be a tougher, nastier, team for sure. I think we have a lot more grit to us this year,” Linebacker and Special Teams Coach Mossis Madu said.
One of the team’s biggest goals is to improve the way they finish games.
“The two losses last year we didn’t finish the game, we started off hot and we’re actually winning at one point in both of the games we lost. So this year we definitely need to improve on finishing games,” Madu said.
With that goal in mind the coaching staff is working hard to help prepare the team so that they will be able to finish games.
“So it’s on us coaches just really being more outspoken about putting the guys in pressure situations in practice, and also making sure that we’re in good enough shape to be able to finish games out,” Madu said.
The team has a lot of new talent and starters, along with a fresh mentality they have for playing games.
“I think that we have the right leadership on our team. We have a lot of guys going out there with a big chip on their shoulder. I think this year we will definitely be a scrappier team than in years past,” Madu said.
The team currently has a 2-0 record, securing wins against both Putnam City and Clinton. They play Bishop Kelley tonight, Friday September 8th, in Tulsa.
