Team talk before they begin practice.

Kick-in off the season

As reigning 5A girls state soccer champions, the team is focusing on going into the new season with confidence to perform at the same level as last year.

“We have a target on our back, and I would say there is pressure to be good since we were state champions last year, but our goal is to just focus on ourselves and improve,” senior captain Reese Roberts said.

The potential for these girls is great this year with a full team and so many different players.

“We had about 44 girls try out this year and all 44 made it,” Head Coach Kal Okot said.

The team practices everyday. Practice starts with a few laps around the field and some stretches. Followed by some possession drills and usually ending in a scrimmage.

“I like possession and to be in control of the game, so it’s always a possession based practice,” Okot said.

The success of the team is important to the coach and the players but it is also about bonding and having fun.

“I like to joke around with my teammates and lighten the mood to help my teammates not feel so much pressure,” senior Georgia Garrett said.

The team’s goal is to stay motivated throughout the season. Whether they are winning or down in a game, their team stays focused.

“The game isn’t over until it’s over,” Okot said.

The first home game is March 10.
