As a new season of basketball nears, both teams are adjusting to new coaching staffs.

“The players and coaches are excited for the season,” varsity boys head coach Jake Brown said.

Players practice five days a week, and scrimmaged schools in the pre-season in hopes of building a close bond. Basketball is about working together and that takes practice to achieve the connection that takes place between the players.

“The players have learned it’s not just about going through the motions but being intentional in

the action,” said Coach Brown.

After a 50-43 win against Destiny Christian, the varsity girls continue to prepare for their first home game against El Reno tonight.

“A successful season for the girls will be coming together on and off the court, win a few games that we are not supposed to win, and increase interest in the girls basketball program,” varsity girls head coach Jade Carter said.

The varsity boys hope to come back and overcome their nerves against El Reno after a 65-76 loss against Destiny Christian.

“This is the best shooting team that I have coached at McGuinness and if we can instill our fast paced style of play in everyone who touches the floor, we have a very high ceiling,” Brown said.
